Jaydin DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
C+
ValueC-

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Patriots won the night they stopped Harmon from sliding. Grade: C+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Derrick Harmon got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at the 77th overall pick.
Milum has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Wyatt Milum
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Bradyn Swinson
A real head-scratcher, Bradyn Swinson in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at No. 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick77
Rnd3
Derrick Harmon
Circle this one: Derrick Harmon at slot 77 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
They did well to land Tez Johnson in pick No. 106, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jamaree Caldwell
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jamaree Caldwell at pick 144. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick217
Rnd7
Karene Reid
They read the board right and Karene Reid was the payoff at the 217th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick220
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens in the 220th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick238
Rnd7
Corey Kiner
No edge and no loss on Corey Kiner in Round 7, Pick 22; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
