Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
Maye is the Commanders' new face under center. Grade: C-.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A mixed bag that lands at C-.

The Bertrand pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Boyd pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

If Drake Maye and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In pick No. 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick27 Rnd1 Keon Coleman
In the 27th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chop Robinson in No. 40. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick41 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They paid up for Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 41 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in Round 3, Pick 3; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick88 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at pick 88, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick101 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick103 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher in the 103rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick132 Rnd4 MarShawn Lloyd
They took MarShawn Lloyd at par in pick 132, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick134 Rnd4 Khristian Boyd
Khristian Boyd at the 134th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick138 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at pick No. 138 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick145 Rnd5 Malik Mustapha
A tidy little value on Malik Mustapha in the 145th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick181 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at Round 6, Pick 6 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220 Rnd6 Isaiah Williams
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Isaiah Williams at No. 220 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick227 Rnd7 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
