mmmm DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bears a B. The Bears torched the value chart for John Williams, taking him 26 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Getting Warren where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick 10 they get a workhorse for the backfield. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Warren at the 39th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
The board had Jalon Walker higher than pick No. 41, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick72
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 72nd pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
They read the board right and Malachi Moore was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick233
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in slot 233 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick240
Rnd7
John Williams
A wild overpay on John Williams in pick No. 240, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
