Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Edwards: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Donovan Edwards had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Wilson lower, and that gap is the story.

On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick39 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A tidy little value on Omarion Hampton in Round 2, Pick 7, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick58 Rnd2 Elic Ayomanor
No drama and no debate, Elic Ayomanor went about where he belonged in pick No. 58. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick72 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tate Ratledge in the 72nd pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick79 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Jackson at slot 79 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
A premium they did not need to pay, Jared Wilson a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick166 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Steal is underselling it; Pat Bryant at the 166th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Circle this one: Donovan Edwards at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Luke Lachey in pick 241, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
