The 49ers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Ethan Downs, 34 picks early at the 252nd overall pick. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hancock.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
