Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB+ FutureB
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B.

The needs board said one thing and the Steelers did another, using slot 119 on Roger Rosengarten while interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots waited. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

The cost of the Rattler reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Worthy at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Nate Wiggins
In the 22nd overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at Round 2, Pick 19 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick84 Rnd3 Xavier Worthy
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Xavier Worthy for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Pick98 Rnd3 Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler at No. 98 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick119 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots to take Roger Rosengarten, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick120 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams in slot 120 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick195 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson slipping to pick No. 195 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick240 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 240th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
