Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Steelers to a C-.

Nobody else had Xavier Truss anywhere near No. 185. The Steelers did, by 111 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That Hampton pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Hit on Derrick Harmon and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Derrick Harmon
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50 Rnd2 Azareye'h Thomas
They took Azareye'h Thomas at par in pick 50, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick52 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Steal is underselling it; Omarion Hampton at the 52nd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick64 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
A clean, defensible pick in the 64th pick with a little surplus value in Jayden Higgins. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick156 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Vernon Broughton well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick185 Rnd6 Xavier Truss
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavier Truss. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick229 Rnd7 John Williams
John Williams at Round 7, Pick 13 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
