FutureB+
More right than wrong for the Falcons, and a B to prove it. The Falcons put a flag in the ground for Que Robinson, 61 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They banked enough surplus on Nelson to cover a lot of smaller sins. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Nic Scourton
In No. 17 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick61
Rnd2
Darien Porter
Darien Porter in the 61st overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
A quiet steal in pick 118: Jordan Phillips for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick119
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
A big swing on Hollin Pierce at pick No. 119, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick132
Rnd4
Que Robinson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Que Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jack Nelson reach the 206th pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in pick No. 218 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick242
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah slid further than he should have, and No. 242 is lovely value for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
