Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Chargers: B.

The rest of the league had time to spare on J.J. Weaver; the Chargers did not wait, grabbing him 45 spots ahead at Round 6, Pick 8.

That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
They paid sticker price for Brock Bowers in the Round 1 slot, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick37 Rnd2 Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean at slot 37 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick69 Rnd3 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at pick No. 69 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick74 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil in the 74th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick96 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at pick 96 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick105 Rnd4 Blake Corum
They will replay Blake Corum at the 105th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick142 Rnd5 Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy at pick No. 142 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick145 Rnd5 Curtis Jacobs
Value said wait; Curtis Jacobs in the 145th overall pick says they were not listening. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick155 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in No. 155 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick183 Rnd6 J.J. Weaver
A big swing on J.J. Weaver at slot 183, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jase McClellan
A slide stopped in pick 226, with Jase McClellan worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
