FutureB-
The Patriots found their guy under center in Williams: B-. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Landing Amegadjie that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
The board had Amarius Mims higher than No. 34, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick74
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie in the 74th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick93
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
The board fumbled Johnny Wilson all the way to Round 3, Pick 30, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick139
Rnd5
Will Shipley
Fair-plus on Will Shipley, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
