FutureA
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Patriots. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Gino Garcia at pick 222 is 59 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Giddens steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 14th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. in Round 2, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick45
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick69
Rnd3
Xavier Restrepo
They did well to land Xavier Restrepo in pick No. 69, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick77
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Jackson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick105
Rnd4
Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm is a better player than the 105th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick145
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
They took Bhayshul Tuten at par in Round 5, Pick 6, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick219
Rnd7
DJ Giddens
Circle this one: DJ Giddens at pick No. 219 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick222
Rnd7
Gino Garcia
Gino Garcia in pick 222 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick240
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
The board had Isaac TeSlaa higher than the 240th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
