Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesD- FutureA+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Patriots to a B-.

The Patriots went off the board in a big way for Gino Garcia, 54 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Landing Gadsden II that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, outstanding value to boot.
Pick38 Rnd2 Mike Green
Mike Green slipping to pick 38 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick58 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at slot 58 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick69 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
They paid sticker price for Tate Ratledge in No. 69, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick77 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
By-the-book stuff, Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 77 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jaylin Noel
A reach on Jaylin Noel in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106 Rnd4 Charles Grant
Charles Grant slid further than he should have, and pick No. 106 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick144 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
Quietly one of the better values of the day, LeQuint Allen at Round 5, Pick 6. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217 Rnd7 Oronde Gadsden II
Somehow Oronde Gadsden II was still sitting there in No. 217, and they pounced on premier tight end value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick220 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
A conviction pick on Isaac TeSlaa at the 220th overall pick that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick238 Rnd7 Gino Garcia
Gino Garcia at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
