Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB-
Larceny in No. 92 lands the 49ers a B+, Lawson and all.

Somebody in Round 3, Pick 28 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Deontae Lawson, the No. 56 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.

Adding Frankie Luvu by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kayden McDonald
In the Round 1 slot they get a load in the middle at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Zion Young
Zion Young in No. 58 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick92 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
Steal is underselling it; Deontae Lawson at the 92nd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick127 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
A quiet steal in the 127th pick: Chase Bisontis for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick131 Rnd4 Justin Joly
Justin Joly in slot 131 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick133 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance slipping to pick No. 133 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139 Rnd4 Kage Casey
Kage Casey in Round 4, Pick 39 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
