There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Brevyn Spann-Ford a full 98 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
