Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureD+
The Bears worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

The Bears ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. The bottom line is a respectable B.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Bortolini lower, and that gap is the story. The Bullard steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Will Anderson Jr. gives the group a proven body among the projects.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the 16th pick they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick22 Rnd1 Keon Coleman
They paid sticker price for Keon Coleman in slot 22, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick24 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 24 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick50 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They liked T'Vondre Sweat enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 18. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick54 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in the 54th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
A tidy bit of business in No. 75, where Javon Bullard graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick87 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
They paid a round early for Zak Zinter in pick No. 87, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick111 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123 Rnd4 Will Shipley
Will Shipley in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick143 Rnd5 Jaheim Bell
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaheim Bell in pick 143. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick194 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at No. 194 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick242 Rnd7 Mark Perry
No edge and no loss on Mark Perry in slot 242; it is a wash and a sensible one. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
