RF4916 DRAFTING FOR THERavens
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Ravens. The Barryn Sorrell pick is the one that will follow the Ravens into the fall. They took him 83 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Getting Harvey where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Mike Green
In the 27th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick59
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery slipping to No. 59 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick91
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
A straight-up fair deal on Denzel Burke at slot 91, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick128
Rnd4
Billy Bowman Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Billy Bowman Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick136
Rnd4
Pat Bryant
They paid a round early for Pat Bryant in the 136th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick176
Rnd5
Dorian Strong
No drama and no debate, Dorian Strong went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick178
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
A real head-scratcher, Jack Kiser in the 178th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick185
Rnd6
Earnest Greene III
You do not let an offensive lineman like Earnest Greene III reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick205
Rnd6
Ty Hamilton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ty Hamilton in No. 205, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick213
Rnd6
RJ Harvey
A running back of that caliber at slot 213 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick245
Rnd7
Barryn Sorrell
They talked themselves into Barryn Sorrell at pick 245, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
