Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureB
The Bears lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story.

Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.

Every board in the league had Steele lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

On value alone, Taylor III makes the weekend a net positive.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
Brock Bowers at Round 1, Pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In slot 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A reach on Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 43; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick74 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in the 74th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 75; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick110 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Dominick Puni. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick122 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
The board had Leonard Taylor III higher than No. 122, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick146 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
They did well to land Luke McCaffrey in the 146th pick, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick233 Rnd7 Carson Steele
A wild overpay on Carson Steele in pick No. 233, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick240 Rnd7 Mark Perry
They took Mark Perry at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
