Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureB-
The Patriots got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The Malik Verdon pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 82 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
However the rest shakes out, McCord at that price is a win they earned.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In No. 7 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III slipping to slot 38 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick42
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
A reach on Donovan Ezeiruaku in Round 2, Pick 10; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick144
Rnd5
Kyle McCord
Kyle McCord at the 144th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick161
Rnd5
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah at pick 161 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick216
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in the 216th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238
Rnd7
Malik Verdon
A real head-scratcher, Malik Verdon in Round 7, Pick 22 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
