Draft Grade — Packers
Overall

The Packers won the night they stopped Higgins from sliding. Grade: B. The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Jay Higgins, the No. 183 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 21 like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Gillotte reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In No. 23 they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick54
Rnd2
Demetrius Knight Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Demetrius Knight Jr. at Round 2, Pick 22, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick87
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
A premium they did not need to pay, Ashton Gillotte a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
They will replay Ozzy Trapilo at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick159
Rnd5
Mello Dotson
Mello Dotson at pick 159 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick198
Rnd6
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez in the 198th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick237
Rnd7
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at the 237th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick250
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in slot 250 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
