Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Watts: A.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Eric Watts slide 33 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Chambers proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

In the end it comes back to Amarius Mims, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In No. 27 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
By-the-book stuff, Ladd McConkey at Round 2, Pick 2 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick55 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
A quiet steal in the 55th overall pick: Tyler Guyton for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick66 Rnd3 Keon Coleman
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Keon Coleman in the 66th pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick68 Rnd3 T'Vondre Sweat
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T'Vondre Sweat at pick 68 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick136 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell at slot 136 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick182 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 182 with a little surplus value in Frank Gore Jr.. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick229 Rnd7 Eric Watts
They barely believed it either: Eric Watts still on the board at Round 7, Pick 9. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick241 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
A premium they did not need to pay, Steele Chambers a notch or two before his time. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
