Draft Grade — Panthers

The Panthers let Brown fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Panthers never addressed wide receiver, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.

Brown at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If Taylor III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in Round 2, Pick 1 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick65 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at pick 65 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
A premium they did not need to pay, Leonard Taylor III a notch or two before his time. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick165 Rnd5 Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
By-the-book stuff, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the 165th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick180 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
A reach for Michael Barrett in slot 180; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick219 Rnd6 Omar Brown
Omar Brown in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
