Draft Grade — Bills

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Bills. The Luke Elzinga selection is the head-turner. The Bills reached 51 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Bills indulged a want in Burke while a need in offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots stayed open. The Reed pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 30 they get a load in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Azareye'h Thomas. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick62
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Alfred Collins in slot 62. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick109
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Denzel Burke at cornerback with offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick132
Rnd4
Kyle Williams
Fair-plus on Kyle Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick169
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
A premium they did not need to pay, Jack Kiser a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170
Rnd5
Luke Elzinga
Luke Elzinga in No. 170 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick173
Rnd5
Que Robinson
They reached into another round for Que Robinson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
The board had Jaylen Reed higher than slot 206, and the safety fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick228
Rnd7
Shemar James
A wild overpay on Shemar James in pick 228, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick244
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They paid up for Teddye Buchanan at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
