Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedA- TradesA+ FutureC+
The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Slaughter: B+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jake Slaughter had no business being available in No. 92, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Keenan III has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Ja'Marr Chase leading the way.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Rueben Bain Jr.
In the 1st overall pick they get juice off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick28 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In pick 28 they get a ballhawk on the back end, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese at No. 33 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick60 Rnd2 Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane in slot 60 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick65 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 1: Daylen Everette for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick92 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Steal is underselling it; Jake Slaughter at pick No. 92 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick101 Rnd4 Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Jack Endries in the 123rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128 Rnd4 Tim Keenan III
They reached a country mile for Tim Keenan III at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick144 Rnd5 Deion Burks
Deion Burks in the 144th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Nothing to complain about; Jacob Rodriguez went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
