FutureA+
The Bills got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the B-. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Bills, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Landing Etienne that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If Toia pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. It is not that Williams is a bad player; it is that the Bills had louder needs to answer first.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick56
Rnd2
Trey Amos
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Trey Amos for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick66
Rnd3
Tre Harris
A tidy little value on Tre Harris in slot 66, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick109
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
They paid sticker price for Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 109, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132
Rnd4
Nohl Williams
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 4, Pick 30 on Nohl Williams with offensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
Pick170
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
They went early on JJ Pegues in the 170th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick173
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
Somehow Trevor Etienne was still sitting there in the 173rd pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick177
Rnd6
Jay Toia
They reached into another round for Jay Toia, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick206
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse at No. 206 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick239
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
A real head-scratcher, Teddye Buchanan in No. 239 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in Round 7, Pick 28 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
They jumped the gun on Jaylin Smith, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick257
Rnd7
Kitan Crawford
Nothing to complain about; Kitan Crawford went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
