Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Patriots: B.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Patriots never addressed safety, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

On value alone, Grant makes the weekend a net positive. The cost of the Tuten reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In No. 4 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
The board had Kenneth Grant higher than the 38th pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals at the 69th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick81 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
They read the board right and Cameron Williams was the payoff at pick 81. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
Nice patience on Zy Alexander, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at Round 4, Pick 17 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
Pick144 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
They jumped the gun on Bhayshul Tuten, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
