PhillyV DRAFTING FOR THEEagles

Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall
D
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
The Eagles bled value on every deal, hence the D. The Warren Brinson selection is the head-turner. The Eagles reached 45 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
Landing Johnson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick64
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in pick No. 64 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick96
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
Fair-plus on Gunnar Helm, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
You do not let a wide receiver like Tez Johnson reach pick 127 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at Round 4, Pick 31 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick134
Rnd4
Cody Simon
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cody Simon. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick161
Rnd5
CJ West
CJ West at pick 161 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick165
Rnd5
Que Robinson
Que Robinson at the 165th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick168
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough in No. 168 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick191
Rnd6
Clay Webb
Clay Webb in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick197
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at slot 197 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick226
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
They jumped the gun on Carson Vinson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Pick251
Rnd7
Warren Brinson
Warren Brinson in Round 7, Pick 35 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
