Draft Grade — Colts

Grand theft in slot 45: the Colts steal Loveland and grade out a B-. Somebody in Round 2, Pick 13 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Colts sat still while Colston Loveland, the No. 25 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. More want than need.
Pick45
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in No. 45 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick80
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Barrett Carter. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick117
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. in the 117th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick151
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
A slide stopped in pick 151, with Malachi Moore worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick189
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
The board had DJ Giddens higher than the 189th pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick232
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone at pick No. 232 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
