The board owed the Jaguars one, and it paid up: Kaleb Johnson, the No. 48 name on the board, sitting there at the 88th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

The offensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Alexander pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
