Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesA-
FutureB
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B. The Patriots treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 238th overall pick on Gino Garcia a full 67 spots early. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Landing Ferguson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Armand Membou
They paid sticker price for Armand Membou in the 13th overall pick, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
The board had Jalon Walker higher than Round 2, Pick 6, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick77
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
They read the board right and Elic Ayomanor was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
They took Zy Alexander at par in slot 98, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron at pick 127 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick135
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
The board fumbled Terrance Ferguson all the way to the 135th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They went early on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 144th pick, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick217
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks at pick No. 217 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
You do not let an offensive lineman like Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson reach slot 220 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238
Rnd7
Gino Garcia
Gino Garcia in No. 238 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
