The phones sank the Bills this weekend: B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bills took Omar Speights a full 107 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick60
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
They paid up for Ruke Orhorhoro at pick 60 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick82
Rnd3
Javon Baker
A reach for Javon Baker in the Round 3 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick128
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mohamed Kamara. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Simpson in Round 4, Pick 34; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick144
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 144 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick160
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha in slot 160 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick163
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson at pick No. 163 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
They liked Jaylen Harrell enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 25. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick204
Rnd6
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint is a better player than the 204th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick234
Rnd7
Omar Speights
They reached a country mile for Omar Speights at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick248
Rnd7
Daijahn Anthony
A tidy bit of business in the 248th overall pick, where Daijahn Anthony graded well above the range. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
