Draft Grade — Bears

TradesA+
FutureA+
The Bears bet the future on Nix. The board says A-. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Bo Nix is the Bears' quarterback, full stop.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Hall Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
They will need Booker to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In the end it comes back to Bo Nix, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In pick No. 27 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at pick 33 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick35
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 35th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick38
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
They read the board right and Troy Fautanu was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 6. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick65
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at No. 65 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick71
Rnd3
Austin Booker
The board had cheaper options than Austin Booker at slot 71, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
They took Cooper Beebe at par in the 75th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick100
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick109
Rnd4
Audric Estime
A clean, defensible pick in pick 109 with a little surplus value in Audric Estime. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick121
Rnd4
Maason Smith
A slide stopped in the 121st overall pick, with Maason Smith worth more than the price. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick221
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
They did well to land Michael Barrett in slot 221, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
