FutureD+
The 49ers won the night they stopped Warren from sliding. Grade: D. Somebody took the 49ers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
Reaching for Kuithe left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. That Warren pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In slot 31 they get a downhill hitter at safety at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick33
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
They did well to land Derrick Harmon in pick 33, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Josaiah Stewart
They paid a round early for Josaiah Stewart in the 43rd pick, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick50
Rnd2
Marcus Mbow
By-the-book stuff, Marcus Mbow at Round 2, Pick 18 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick52
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick59
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in pick No. 59 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at the 63rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at pick 67 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. slid further than he should have, and pick No. 75 is lovely value for the linebacker. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
No drama and no debate, Cam Skattebo went about where he belonged in slot 113. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
Fair-plus on Anthony Belton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jake Majors
No edge and no loss on Jake Majors in the 129th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138
Rnd4
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick147
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Pat Bryant. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick149
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
Nothing to complain about; Trevor Etienne went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick160
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
A straight-up fair deal on Ty Robinson at slot 160, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick227
Rnd7
Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw in the 227th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick243
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
Value said wait; Brant Kuithe in No. 243 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick249
Rnd7
Marcus Yarns
A reach for Marcus Yarns in Round 7, Pick 33; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick252
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They paid sticker price for Teddye Buchanan in pick No. 252, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
