Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
D
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureA
The Raiders lost the trade table, and the D tells the story. The Raiders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Porter reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Getting Watts where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In the 30th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
The board had Xavier Watts higher than pick 56, and the safety fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick62
Rnd2
Darien Porter
A reach on Darien Porter in the 62nd overall pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick68
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
A tidy bit of business in No. 68, where TreVeyon Henderson graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick108
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
They paid sticker price for Zy Alexander in pick No. 108, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick143
Rnd5
Kurtis Rourke
Kurtis Rourke at slot 143 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick154
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough in Round 5, Pick 16 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick180
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 180 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick213
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
Fair-plus on Donovan Edwards, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick215
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
Good price on Caleb Ransaw in No. 215, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick222
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
A conviction pick on Carson Vinson at pick 222 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
