Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Wheatley: B-.

For all the boxes ticked, the 49ers skipped the loudest one: wide receiver is exactly as bare as it was. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

Getting Wheatley where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Reaching for Lomu left real value on the table behind him. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In the 28th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at Round 2, Pick 27 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick92 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley in No. 92 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127 Rnd4 Carson Beck
Value with a capital V on Carson Beck in pick 127, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Pick133 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
Nothing to complain about; Tacario Davis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick139 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
They paid sticker price for Michael Trigg in slot 139, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick172 Rnd5 Raleek Brown
Raleek Brown at slot 172 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
