Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureA-
Good, not great, for the Patriots: B.

The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Hayden Conner, taking him 29 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Higgins at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In No. 14 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick23 Rnd1 Jalon Walker
In the 23rd pick they get the heartbeat of the defense. More want than need.
Pick38 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
They paid a round early for Aireontae Ersery in the 38th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in pick 69 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick77 Rnd3 Omarr Norman-Lott
A reasonable price with a little left over, Omarr Norman-Lott in pick No. 77. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick106 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick144 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at No. 144 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick151 Rnd5 Ollie Gordon II
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ollie Gordon II in pick 151, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick217 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at the 217th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220 Rnd7 CJ Dippre
They left a pile of value on the table to take CJ Dippre this early at Round 7, Pick 4. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
A big swing on Hayden Conner at the 238th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
