The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Hunter: B-.

Somebody took the Patriots to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hunter. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
A tight end of that caliber at No. 38 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick58 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at pick No. 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick69 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 69th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ozzy Trapilo. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick106 Rnd4 Savion Williams
A tidy bit of business in the 106th pick, where Savion Williams graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick144 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at slot 144 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jarquez Hunter
Jarquez Hunter in No. 217 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220 Rnd7 Woody Marks
Steal is underselling it; Woody Marks at the 220th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick238 Rnd7 Alijah Huzzie
The board fumbled Alijah Huzzie all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
