The Commanders drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: B.

The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

However the rest shakes out, Worthy at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
No edge and no loss on Caleb Williams in pick No. 2; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick36 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
They let Troy Fautanu come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick40 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. slipping to Round 2, Pick 8 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson is a better player than pick 67 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick78 Rnd3 Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy in No. 78 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Kris Abrams-Draine in the 100th overall pick, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139 Rnd5 Johnny Wilson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Johnny Wilson at slot 139 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
A tidy bit of business in the 152nd pick, where Jarrian Jones graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick222 Rnd7 Ryan Flournoy
Ryan Flournoy at the 222nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
