The Dolphins kept it disciplined and banked a B. There is reaching, and then there is Caden Curry at slot 75. The Dolphins jumped the board by 55 and dared it to prove them wrong. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. With interior defensive lineman and running back unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
Getting Thieneman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Colton Hood
In the 30th overall pick they get an island corner at fair value.
Pick43
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They read the board right and Dillon Thieneman was the payoff at the 43rd pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick49
Rnd2
Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan at pick No. 49 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75
Rnd3
Caden Curry
They reached a country mile for Caden Curry at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick82
Rnd3
Ted Hurst
A straight-up fair deal on Ted Hurst at slot 82, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87
Rnd3
Tyreak Sapp
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyreak Sapp this early at pick 87. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90
Rnd3
Bryce Lance
They took Bryce Lance at par in the 90th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97
Rnd3
Keylan Rutledge
They liked Keylan Rutledge enough to skip the value, taking him in the 97th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick130
Rnd4
Charles Demmings
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Charles Demmings while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and running back sat open.
Pick151
Rnd5
Dametrious Crownover
They let Dametrious Crownover come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick227
Rnd7
John Michael Gyllenborg
John Michael Gyllenborg in slot 227 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick234
Rnd7
Owen Heinecke
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Owen Heinecke. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick238
Rnd7
Luke Altmyer
Luke Altmyer in Round 7, Pick 22 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
