The Dolphins fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Dolphins spent the 227th overall pick on Deven Eastern, a name the board had a full 52 spots lower.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Dolphins paired the rookies with proven help, Tyler Guyton leading the way. That Reese pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
In the end it comes back to Arvell Reese, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 24th overall pick they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Nice patience on Dillon Thieneman, who had no business lasting to slot 43. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Daylen Everette. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jaishawn Barham
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaishawn Barham this early at the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick92
Rnd3
Max Klare
Value with a capital V on Max Klare in No. 92, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94
Rnd3
Ted Hurst
Ted Hurst in Round 3, Pick 30 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick107
Rnd4
Treydan Stukes
Treydan Stukes at No. 107 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick112
Rnd4
Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane is a better player than pick No. 112 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jude Bowry
They paid sticker price for Jude Bowry in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick151
Rnd5
Dametrious Crownover
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 11, with Dametrious Crownover worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick159
Rnd5
Drew Allar
A reasonable price with a little left over, Drew Allar in the 159th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177
Rnd5
Seth McGowan
Seth McGowan at slot 177 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick227
Rnd7
Deven Eastern
Value said wait; Deven Eastern in pick 227 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick238
Rnd7
Xavier Nwankpa
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Nwankpa went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
