FutureB-
The phones sank the Eagles this weekend: D-. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
They will answer for taking linebacker early while interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots went begging. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In No. 5 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jermaine Burton
A straight-up fair deal on Jermaine Burton at Round 2, Pick 18, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick54
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 54 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick60
Rnd2
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 60th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick86
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
They took Gabriel Murphy at par in slot 86, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots to take Marist Liufau, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick97
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Good price on Zak Zinter in pick 97, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick99
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick105
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Nothing to complain about; Blake Fisher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick126
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at pick 126 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick137
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Value with a capital V on Jarrian Jones in Round 5, Pick 1, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick172
Rnd5
Brennan Jackson
No drama and no debate, Brennan Jackson went about where he belonged in No. 172. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178
Rnd6
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten slid further than he should have, and the 178th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick243
Rnd7
Mark Perry
The board had Mark Perry higher than pick No. 243, and the safety fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
