Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The 49ers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Patrick Payton at Round 4, Pick 35, a reach of 45 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Moore pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and tight end still on the board. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Miller.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
In the 30th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick32 Rnd1 Nicholas Singleton
In slot 32 they get a workhorse for the backfield, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Blake Miller
Blake Miller in Round 2, Pick 31 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jaeden Roberts
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaeden Roberts. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick87 Rnd3 Gabe Jacas
They took Gabe Jacas at par in pick No. 87, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick89 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick92 Rnd3 Keon Sabb
Value with a capital V on Keon Sabb in slot 92, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick94 Rnd3 Domani Jackson
A premium they did not need to pay, Domani Jackson a notch or two before his time. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick96 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange in No. 96 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick103 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
By-the-book stuff, Parker Brailsford at the 103rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick112 Rnd4 Kage Casey
Kage Casey at the 112th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick128 Rnd4 Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick130 Rnd4 Rod Moore
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Rod Moore in pick No. 130 leaves quarterback and tight end for later.
Pick134 Rnd4 Earnest Greene III
They went early on Earnest Greene III in Round 4, Pick 32, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick137 Rnd4 Patrick Payton
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Patrick Payton well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick167 Rnd5 Barion Brown
A real head-scratcher, Barion Brown in slot 167 is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick169 Rnd5 Daevin Hobbs
Value said wait; Daevin Hobbs in pick 169 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick174 Rnd5 Kelby Collins
Kelby Collins at the 174th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick175 Rnd5 J.Michael Sturdivant
A wild overpay on J.Michael Sturdivant in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick206 Rnd6 Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman in Round 6, Pick 30 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at pick No. 241 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
