Sharo DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Draft Grade — 49ers

Good, not great, for the 49ers: B-. You can hear the double-takes from here. The 49ers took Harold Perkins Jr. at the Round 2 slot, roughly 37 spots before his name belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Fields at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In pick No. 27 they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58
Rnd2
Harold Perkins Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Harold Perkins Jr.. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick92
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 28, with Malachi Fields worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jakobe Thomas. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick133
Rnd4
Kage Casey
By-the-book stuff, Kage Casey at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd4
David Oke
No drama and no debate, David Oke went about where he belonged in pick 138. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
A straight-up fair deal on Oscar Delp at Round 5, Pick 33, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
