Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bengals spent the 193rd pick on Howard Cross III, a name most had 29 spots down the list. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.

A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. With cornerback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Phillips. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
