JA DRAFTING FOR THEBills
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bills, and a B- to prove it. There is reaching, and then there is Vernon Broughton at slot 109. The Bills jumped the board by 77 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Campbell falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Job largely done: linebacker settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In pick No. 30 they get a two-high chess piece at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick56
Rnd2
Trey Amos
A tidy bit of business in the 56th pick, where Trey Amos graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at the 62nd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109
Rnd4
Vernon Broughton
Value said wait; Vernon Broughton in Round 4, Pick 7 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick132
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A wild overpay on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick169
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ty Robinson in No. 169. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick170
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
They read the board right and Damien Martinez was the payoff at pick No. 170. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick173
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
By-the-book stuff, Ajani Cornelius at the 173rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick177
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse in pick 177 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick206
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaac TeSlaa well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
