Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureB-
The Patriots got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. Nobody else had Isaac TeSlaa anywhere near the 171st pick. The Patriots did, by 69 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On value alone, Farmer makes the weekend a net positive.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In slot 4 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
No edge and no loss on Aireontae Ersery in pick No. 38; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They liked Jayden Higgins enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jordan Burch
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Burch in pick 41, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick148
Rnd5
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer at the 148th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171
Rnd5
Isaac TeSlaa
A wild overpay on Isaac TeSlaa in Round 5, Pick 33, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick220
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
A premium they did not need to pay, Phil Mafah a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
