FutureA+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Fidone II: B. You could see the war room lean forward. Thomas Fidone II at slot 240 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
They will need Lampkin to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the 10th overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at the 39th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick41
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Landon Jackson at pick 41, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148
Rnd5
Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin at No. 148 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick233
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Value with a capital V on Phil Mafah in the Round 7 slot, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick240
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
They barely believed it either: Thomas Fidone II still on the board at Round 7, Pick 24. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
