Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureA
The Patriots let McCord fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Kyle McCord at the 144th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Reaching for Lindenberg left real value on the table behind him. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. in pick 38 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick49 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at the 49th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
They reached a country mile for Jordan Burch at No. 69, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jack Bech
Jack Bech slid further than he should have, and pick No. 77 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91 Rnd3 Deone Walker
Deone Walker in the 91st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106 Rnd4 David Walker
David Walker at slot 106 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick129 Rnd4 Cody Simon
By-the-book stuff, Cody Simon at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick136 Rnd4 Andres Borregales
This one needs a full-page explanation: Andres Borregales in No. 136, miles early. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick144 Rnd5 Kyle McCord
Steal is underselling it; Kyle McCord at pick 144 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick217 Rnd7 Caleb Ransaw
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Caleb Ransaw at pick No. 217 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick220 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
A straight-up fair deal on Carson Vinson at the 220th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick238 Rnd7 Cody Lindenberg
They reached into another round for Cody Lindenberg, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
