Draft Grade — Bengals

More right than wrong for the Bengals, and a B- to prove it. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bengals did exactly that with Howard Cross III in the Round 6 slot. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. On value alone, Johnson makes the weekend a net positive. They will answer for taking edge rusher early while cornerback, tight end and other spots went begging.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In slot 17 they get a disruptor off the edge. More want than need.
Pick49
Rnd2
Josaiah Stewart
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback, tight end and other spots to take Josaiah Stewart, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
Pick81
Rnd3
Deone Walker
By-the-book stuff, Deone Walker at the 81st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick119
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at No. 119 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick153
Rnd5
Barryn Sorrell
They paid a round early for Barryn Sorrell in the 153rd pick, more than the board wanted. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick193
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Howard Cross III this early at pick 193. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
