Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Browns a B+. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Browns took Jake Majors a full 33 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Starks at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The veteran additions, Erik McCoy chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
The board had Kenneth Grant higher than the 33rd overall pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jaxson Dart
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaxson Dart a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick45
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
They will replay Malaki Starks at pick No. 45 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick54
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in slot 54 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick65
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
No drama and no debate, Elic Ayomanor went about where he belonged in No. 65. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Donovan Jackson at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick74
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason Taylor. It fills a real need, too.
Pick80
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at No. 80 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick87
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
They liked Tez Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Nice patience on Andrew Mukuba, who had no business lasting to slot 94. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jake Majors
Value said wait; Jake Majors in pick 99 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick104
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
A reasonable price with a little left over, Zy Alexander in the 104th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick200
Rnd6
RJ Oben
RJ Oben at pick No. 200 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
