FutureA
Good, not great, for the Bears: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Gino Garcia in Round 7, Pick 24. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Landing Watts that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
No edge and no loss on Armand Membou in the Round 1 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick39
Rnd2
Nic Scourton
Nic Scourton at slot 39 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick63
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing TreVeyon Henderson in the 63rd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick73
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
They will replay Xavier Watts at pick No. 73 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick118
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
They did well to land Joshua Farmer in pick 118, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138
Rnd4
Cody Simon
They read the board right and Cody Simon was the payoff at No. 138. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick148
Rnd5
Nohl Williams
Circle this one: Nohl Williams at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick233
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They paid sticker price for Isaac TeSlaa in pick 233, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick240
Rnd7
Gino Garcia
Gino Garcia at No. 240 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick249
Rnd7
Donovan Smith
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Donovan Smith well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
